August 2025 DDGM Communication – Huron District Highlights

Ontario Masons

Brethren, we are nearing the end of the summer break, and the Lodge is returning once again for meetings within our District. My communications will serve as a “District Pulse” of what’s going on in the geographic area of our Huron District. Look for the latest Trestleboard Version 5 on the District website, the Huron Herald and from the District Secretary.

District Meeting

The District Meeting was held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 9:00 AM. The event was well-attended, with most lodges represented. The minutes of the meeting are being distributed.

District Charity

I am actively working with R.W. Bro. Stephen Hearn and R.W. Bro. Doug Stewart on setting up the District Charity with the Masonic Foundation of Ontario (MFO). In doing so, all monies raised will then be matched with a top-up percentage of 33% from the MFO. My goal is to raise $15,000, excluding the top-up additional value. It may be an ambitious goal, but I have confidence in our District.

The three brick & mortar buildings are:

  • Huron Hospice: 98 Shipley Street, Clinton
  • Jessica’s House Hospice: 70776 London Road, Exeter
  • Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth: 80 Greenwood Drive, Stratford

These hospices are located in Huron & Perth Counties. For example, if someone lived in Listowel, they could go to the Rotary Hospice in Stratford. I have also confirmed this example directly with the facility and have been advised that many from Listowel have chosen this location for their loved ones.

If you would like to contribute to this District Charity, please make a memo note that the funds are for allocation to the Huron District Charity.

District Social Events

Did you know that a gathering of a group of Masons is required to get Grand Lodge dispensation? Yes, it’s true. It’s a straightforward request submitted by your Lodge Secretary. The primary benefit of doing this is that the Grand Lodge insurance covers the event, as stated by R.W. Bro. Stilwell at the recent District Meeting, Brotherhood Pub Night, was a success, with several Brethren in attendance. This event received dispensation from Grand Lodge and was hosted by St. James-Tecumseh Lodge 73. We have some upcoming events to put on your radar. A family Halloween-themed bowling event on Saturday, October 25th, participation in a Remembrance Day Parade on November 9th, and our Huron District Grand Master’s Banquet on Friday, November 28th.

Cornerstone Lodges 2025-2027

We have two Lodges in our Huron District that received this recognition. Congratulations to the Brethren of St.James-Tecumseh Lodge 73 & Tudor Lodge 141 for this achievement. Their certificates were presented to them at the District Meeting.

This is an excellent program for our Lodges to get involved in, helping to create an environment of prosperity and growth for Freemasonry within the Huron District.

The Travelling Man

The new history tracking award for best District attendance at OVs was unveiled at the District Meeting. The first opportunity to see the Travelling Man in Lodge will be on Wednesday, September 10th, during the Official Visit for Morningstar-Clinton Lodge No. 309. Come one, come all, by the carload and visit with our Brethren in Carlow.

Upcoming Events

  • Tudor Lodge 141 Food Booth at the Mitchell Fall Fair on August 29-31, 2025
  • OV at Morningstar-Clinton Lodge 309 on September 10, 2025
  • St.James-Tecumseh Lodge 73 Golf Tournament on September 13, 2025
  • Craig Lodge 574 Chicken Dinner (Pick-up) on September 21, 2025

Brethren, there is much going on in our District. Get on out there and have some fun! To the WMs of the Huron District, lead your Lodge to the Ovs and win the Travelling Gavel!

Sincerely & Fraternally,

R.W. Bro. Jamie McFadden
District Deputy Grand Master
